What is anxiety?

While it was originally thought to be a healthy emotion or reaction to stimuli, it has recently been identified as a possible behavioral disease with detrimental physical, mental, and emotional consequences.

The American Psychological Association defines anxiety as “an emotion marked by feelings of tension, concerned thoughts, and physical changes.” It has been with humanity since the dawn of time when our forefathers were fleeing enormous predatory beasts and other threats.

People still have anxiety triggers these days, which are mainly related to money, employment, family, relationships, and health.

We have begun to develop other worries related to climate change, terrorism, and authoritarianism as we are continually assaulted by twenty-four-hour news outlets.

A wise man once said that we all inherit our parents’ concerns, which reveal themselves in how we respond to trauma or triggers.

What are anxiety affirmations?

Anxiety affirmations are essentially just a series of short sentences about ourselves or the world.

They usually revolve around changes we want to make in our lives and specific results we want to achieve.

One common theme is that they are always in the present tense and of a positive nature.

Positive affirmations for anxiety are simply mantras or words that a person repeats to himself to express who they want to be or a certain result they wish to achieve.

We begin to change our habits, progress toward our goals, and, eventually, make the content of those positive affirmations a reality by doing so.

Affirmations have a relaxing and calming effect when repeated.

The sayings may appear to be wishful thinking at times, yet they have the potential to become reality.

Positive affirmations, when repeated over and over, gradually alter both reality and a person’s thinking.

While there is no 100% guarantee that affirmations will work, I can say with certainty that if you have a negative mindset, you will definitely not get out of the rut.

How do anxiety affirmations work?

Affirmations for anxiety work well because they can train a person’s mind to believe in the thoughts conveyed.

Positive affirmations are simple, forceful words that reaffirm your beliefs about the things you want to alter.

They are necessary for any kind of progress in life.

Read the phrases out loud to acquaint yourself with their sound and ensure that they are successful.

Choose your favorite affirmations and store them on your phone or a notecard where they’ll be easy to find.

Take the affirmations and speak them out loud as soon as you wake up, or start a routine you are comfortable with.

For one week, repeat the process. Choose more affirmations and continue the process after waking up if you want to lengthen the experience.

Very soon, you will memorize the affirmations and they start to become second nature to you. That’s when you will start seeing real changes to your behavior and overall improvement in life.

Who can benefit from these positive affirmations for anxiety?

Anxiety is not like catching a cold or suffering from a cough. The signs are not always physically clear, which is why we need to be mindful of the way we think and feel.

As a general guideline, you can definitely benefit from using anxiety affirmations (or any positive affirmations, really) if you notice the following:

  • Feeling helpless in the face of dread
  • Getting too overly concerned about things
  • Afflicted by self-doubt
  • Lots of anxiety about the unknown.
  • Suffering from excessive self-consciousness.
  • Panicking frequently or suffering from panic episodes
  • Experiencing anxiety in social gatherings
  • Constantly on edge and on high alert for potential troubles
  • Concerned about the future in an illogical way
  • Finding it difficult to let go of control

Benefits of using positive affirmations when you have anxiety

The following are some of the advantages of using affirmations in your daily life:

  • Negative ideas are no longer present
  • The storyline of the stories you tell yourself is transformed
  • Boost your mood by boosting your self-esteem and self-worth
  • Boosts your motivation
  • A more positive outlook on life
  • Enhances your way of life
  • Allows you to observe your situation from a different angle in order to solve challenges.
  • Enhances emotions of inner tranquility
  • Increases your belief in your capacity to attain your objectives

How do I remember to say my affirmations?

When you start off reciting affirmations, it can be easy to forget about them, especially when you do not have a set routine yet.

Experiment with a few ways which can stick, as it can be different from one person to another.

Here are a few of my suggestions:

  • Keep a written or printed copy of your affirmations near your beside. Recite them the moment you wake and before you sleep.
  • Print out a deck of affirmation cards and take them along when you head out. They are great for a temporary positivity boost.
  • Start a daily bullet journal to document your thoughts and feelings. Write down your affirmations and read them aloud each day.
  • Create your own digital wallpaper for your phone or computer to serve as regular reminders.
  • Wear a crystal bracelet which you have charged with your affirmations. They are great energy sources and being worn on your hand regularly can keep you reminded of using positive affirmations.

Reaching out for help with anxiety

Anxiety can sometimes grow so severe that it affects every aspect of one’s life, including:

  • Physical wellbeing
  • Performance at school and work
  • Relationships
  • Regular daily responsibilities

Although affirmations can be beneficial as a self-help method, they may not be adequate to help you find relief if you have severe or persistent anxiety problems.

Consult a doctor if your anxiety is interfering with your everyday activities. Symptoms can also be caused by an underlying medical condition.

It’s entirely acceptable for many people to seek the help of a therapist when learning to manage their anxiety symptoms. That isn’t to say your affirmations aren’t effective.

A therapist can assist you in starting to investigate the underlying causes of anxiety, which affirmations can not address. Knowing what causes anxiety symptoms can help.

As I mentioned earlier, there are about 40 million adults in the United States alone who have this problem, so you are not alone. Don’t be afraid to seek help.

How to use affirmations effectively?

  • Identify the negative thoughts that you wish to get rid of or something that you wish to manifest. Affirmations work in both scenarios, but you need to be clear about what you want. This post about learning how to write affirmations might help you out.
  • Use the following list as a source of inspiration and guidance. You may use any affirmation as it is, or modify it to make it your own. The key thing here is that the affirmations MUST resonate with you and is a statement you truly believe in.
  • Pick out at least 2 affirmations and start using them.
  • Begin a routine of practicing at least twice a day of reciting the affirmations with each session lasting 3-5 minutes. Repeat each one 10-15 times daily. You can do this in front of a mirror, speak out loud, or do it in your mind. Do not skip any sessions. I usually do this each morning when I wake and before I go to bed.
  • Download and print out your own affirmations worksheet below to use as a guide for manifestation. Stick it on your mirror/journal/vision board, or anywhere you can easily access it throughout the day so that it can serve as a constant reminder to you.
  • Alternatively, you can check out our Daily Positive Affirmations Cards which are designed and organized for you. All you need to do is print them and take them everywhere you go!
  • Be patient! It usually takes a month or so to see changes.
